ISO 19443 — Guidance and Training
From the initial assessment to certification, using expertise that combines numerical simulation and safety culture
What is ISO 19443, and why is it becoming essential?
ISO 19443:2018 is an international standard that supplements the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 with provisions specific to the nuclear sector. It is intended for any organization in the nuclear supply chain that provides products or services critical to nuclear safety.

The Three Pillars of the Standard
Culture sûreté
Identification des IPSN

Our ISO 19443 Services
DAES offers comprehensive support, from initial awareness-raising to preparation for the certification audit. Our consulting engineers possess dual expertise: technical expertise in numerical simulation and in-depth knowledge of nuclear quality standards.
The ISO 19443 Assessment: A Starting Point
Before embarking on a certification process, it is essential to assess the gap between your current management system and the standard’s requirements. Our assessment covers:
- Documentary review of your existing QMS (ISO 9001 or other)
- Identifying IPSN Activities in Your Processes
- Assessing Your Teams’ Safety Culture Level
- Gap Analysis and Prioritized Action Plan
- Estimated Timeframe and Budget for Compliance
The assessment takes place over two days on-site (Switzerland, France) and results in a detailed report with operational recommendations
Training in Nuclear Safety Culture
A safety culture is at the heart of ISO 19443. Our training courses are designed for engineers and technicians as well as managers and quality assurance professionals.
They can be delivered in person at your facilities or remotely.
Sample Itinerary — 2 Days:
- Day 1, Morning — Fundamentals: Regulatory Context, IAEA, Safety Principles, Lessons Learned (REX) in the Nuclear Industry.
- Day 1, Afternoon — ISO 19443 in Detail: Review of the standard, identification of IPSNs, a phased approach, and requirements supplementary to ISO 9001.
- Day 2, Morning — Practical Application: Workshops on your actual processes, identifying gaps, and drafting compliant procedures.
- Day 2, afternoon — Internal audit: ISO 19443 audit techniques, assessment quiz, individual improvement plan.
DAES and the Nuclear Sector:
We have been active in the nuclear sector since our founding in 2012. Our engineers perform design calculations in accordance with the RCC-M and ESPN standards, conduct seismic analyses, and simulate the thermomechanical behavior of nuclear components. This dual expertise—both technical and regulatory—is our unique value proposition in the Swiss and Franco-Swiss markets.
Our nuclear industry clients trust us to:
- Numerical Simulation (FEA, CFD) of Components and Structures Under Nuclear Loads
- Verification of compliance with RCC-M, ASME, and other standards…
- Technical Training and Security Culture Awareness
- ISO 19443 Support from the Assessment Phase to Certification
Based in Geneva, Basel, Winterthur, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region; operates in Switzerland and France DAES works with nuclear subcontractors in French-speaking Switzerland, German-speaking Switzerland, and France (AUVN, Bugey Nuclear Power Plant, Cruas, Tricastin). Our geographic proximity and our trilingualism (FR/EN/DE) are tangible assets for your cross-border projects. |
Frequently Asked Questions
My company is ISO 9001 certified—do I have to start all over again?
No. ISO 19443 is designed as an extension of ISO 9001. Your existing processes remain in place: you simply add the specific nuclear requirements (safety culture, IPSN, graded approach) on top of your current QMS. This approach is therefore much less burdensome than starting from scratch.
Which organization certifies ISO 19443 in Switzerland?
In Switzerland, ISO 19443 certifications can be issued by SGS, Bureau Veritas, TÜV SÜD, or TÜV Rheinland. DAES prepares you for the audit by the certification body of your choice and can help you select the one best suited to your situation.
How long does it take to get certified?
Between 3 and 9 months, depending on the maturity level of your current QMS and the complexity of your IPSN activities. The initial assessment we conduct will provide you with an accurate estimate right from the start.
