The relationship has continued to grow and it is natural that, as part of its Alumni network, we enjoy collaborating with its members. This is done within the framework of scientific projects for research or industry and network and recruitment actions.
DAES is also part of the Cern Knowledge Tranfer (Cern KT) to promote technology dissemination.

SEALION

Seaborg External multiphysics Architecture for Licensing and Ip development of Nuclear reactors

To model the operation of molten salt nuclear reactors, it is necessary to perform a complete coupling between neutronics and fluid dynamics. This is the vocation of the European project européen Eurostars E! 11837 : SEALION

The objective was to be able to:

  • Make these models through a Multiphysics coupling code without modifying the coupled source codes (neutronics or CFD)
  • To couple a well-established Monte Carlo code (e.g. MCNP) with a fluid dynamics code (e.g. ANSYS FLUENT).

The coupling between these two codes has been developed as an iterative process of data exchange between the “database” created by the neutronic code and the CFD software.

This Multiphysics code SEALION was developed by a consortium of partners including the prestigious Chalmers University, DTU et SEABORG.

The SEALION project has enabled the implementation of a library allowing the coupling of a CFD and neutron code, thus taking into account the thermal effects on the flow while providing the distribution of DNP (Delayed Neutron Precursors) throughout the flow.

This project was funded by the Eurostars-2 joint program.
